Dog walker's horror after her nine-year-old dachshund Jeffrey is viciously ...

A woman has spoken of her horror after her nine-year-old dachshund was mauled to death on a beach by three dogs 'as their owner did nothing'.

Carol Hartnell, 45, was walking Jeffrey on Crosby Beach, Liverpool, on Tuesday night when she said he was viciously mauled by two lurchers and a Shar-Pei.

Surgical assistant, Carol, from North Wales, was also bitten on her right arm during the two minute attack.

She claims a man who owned the dogs did nothing to intervene despite her 'screaming at him to get the dogs away'.

Carol was walking on the beach with her partner Steph O'Hanlon, 37, a stay-at-home mum, and Steph's poodle Charlie.

Carol says: 'The beach was beautiful when we got there at about 8pm.

'I let Jeffrey off the lead and he was sniffing around.

'Suddenly, out of nowhere, a lurcher-type dog raced towards him.

'He grabbed Jeffrey by the head and he let out an awful yelp.

'I screamed and ran to help him.

'But another lurcher-type dog grabbed Jeffrey on his abdomen and was twisting him.

'I threw myself to the ground and tried to get Jeffrey away but I couldn't.

'It was helpless.'

Carol claims all three dogs appeared to belong to a man on the beach who had two children with him.

'A group of teenagers heard my screams and rushed over to help.

'Thankfully, a young girl managed to get Jeffrey and pull him off the dogs.

'Me and Steph were frantic.
