Rich and prosperous families are breaking the law by taking their children out of school for a holiday, a new study suggests.

New statistics regarding student attendance in schools have been released by Western Australia's Education Department as Term 3 begins on Tuesday. 

The research reveals one in every seven students with unexplained reasons to take a leave were linked to their parents taking them on a vacation during semester one in 2017, Perth Now reports.
