Who is Daniel Lynch?
Piper’s ex-boyfriend Lynch, 39, arranged for the acid attack which left her partially blind and with severer scarring over her face and body.
Since 2009, she has undergone over 40 operations to help fix the damage caused by the burning.
She and Lynch had been dating for just two weeks before he raped her and beat her up in a London hotel room.
A fortnight later, he organised for Stefan Sylvestre to throw a cup of sulphuric acid in her face while he spoke to her on the phone as she walked through Golders Green in north west London.
In 2009, Lynch was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 16 years behind bars for sexually assaulting Piper and ordering the attack, while Sylvestre was given a life sentence with a minimum of six years.
During the trial, Piper, then anonymous, told the court in a statement: “When the acid was thrown at me, it felt like I was burning in hell. It was an indescribable, unique, tortuous pain.
“I’ve lost my future, my career, my spirit, my body, my looks, my dignity, the list goes on,” she continued. “All I am left with is an empty shell.
“A pair of me has died that will never come back. This is worse than death.”
Piper later gave up her anonymity in order to increase awareness of burn victims and went on to set up the Katie Piper Foundation, which aims to improve outcomes for burns survivors, provide support to victims and raise money for rehabilitation.
