Judges Simon Cowell, Ayda Field, Robbie Williams and Louis Tomlinson were on hand to assess the aspiring singers on the X Factor.
But one contestant, Danny Tetley, had already met Simon when he auditioned for Pop Idol years ago.
The funnyman from Yorkshire appeared to bowl the judges over with his bubbly personality, but everyone was in for a shock when he began to sing.
Danny gave a hugely emotional rendition of ‘And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’ from the Dreamgirls musical which brought the panel and the stadium alike to their feet.
Louis even got on the stage to give the man a hug as he began to break down in tears.
It was clear Danny was overcome in the moment and didn’t hold back in letting it all out.
Louis was quick to commend Danny for his performance, telling the hopeful he should be “proud”.
“Us Yorkshire men are known for wearing our heart on our sleeve and the passion that was pouring out you from in that performance, you should be really proud,” the One Direction star complimented.
Simon was quick to pick up on a comment Danny had made earlier about how the music industry seemed less image-focused since his last audition.
