The fisherman claim the damage is being caused by French trawlers and is costing them hundreds of thousands of pounds.
They allege that the French boats have been dragging nets through UK waters “without a care in the world”, ripping up the crab pots.
Paul Trebilcock, chief executive of the Cornish Fish Producers Organisation, told the Daily Telegraph: “They drag through the gear, break the ropes, damage the pots or tow them away altogether.”
He claimed the damage could be linked to the so-called ‘scallop wars’, caused by UK boats fishing legally in French waters, or even Brexit.
Mr Trebilcock explained: “Much pre-dates the scallop wars but the tensions could be rooted in the same thing and it is unlikely to have helped.
