Kate was joined by fellow Executive Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw to announce the news on the ITV soap’s official Twitter page.
The 17 second clip doesn’t reveal the identity of the couple, however, there are several pairings in the village who are yet to make their vows to one another.
Whoever the characters will be, Kate hinted some dramatic scenes will unfold as the couple become engaged in extraordinary fashion.
With the likes of Chas Dingle (played by Lucy Pargeter) and Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) possibly moving towards marriage, could they be the pair to tie the knot?
There will be a very unexpected proposal
Kate said: “There will be a very, very romantic, very, very funny, very unexpected proposal coming up for these two characters.
“Who pops the question? I’m not going to tell you just yet,” she teased.
Viewers will know Chas and Paddy have had a trying few months after the loss of their baby girl soon after birth almost split the pair for good.
However, their relationship could be put to the test in upcoming episodes as Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) will be making her return to the village after splitting with her ex-husband Paddy 17 years ago.
Will the past few months and Mandy’s return prompt one of the couple to pop the question to the other? Could Chas propose to Paddy?
