DCI John Luther (played by Idris Elba) believed he had caught the killer in tonight’s first instalment.
But in a shock turn of events, it was revealed Vivien Lake’s (Hermione Norris) patient William Lucas was not the killer.
While police believed they had caught her patient and the killer, viewers learned the murderer was really Vivien’s husband.
As she returned home from a police chase in Hampstead, she opened the boot of her car to show her husband Jeremy (Enzo Cilenti) quivering.

Following the sickening twist Vivien has chosen to protect her husband, actress Hermoine has spoken out.
Speaking to press including Express.co.uk about the plot and her character, she said: “You do go on a journey with her, she’s clever.
“Neil [Cross] is just clever, she is a clever woman, she works as a psychiatrist dealing with people with sexual deviances.
“That’s what Neil does to all of the characters, which I love watching, Lluther being squeezed.
“He literally puts you under such pressure and sort of squeezes.
