Doctor Who aired its New Year’s Day special last night (Tuesday, January 1) on BBC One and the episode ended with the caption “The Doctor will return”. Doctor Who season 12 has a release date of 2020, the BBC has previously confirmed. BBC One, however, may air a Doctor Who Christmas special this year.
Series 12 of Doctor Who will air on BBC One in 2020, it has been confirmed.
On December 9, the official Doctor Who Twitter page posted: “Series 12 is on its way and will be returning to BBC One in early 2020.”
The tweet was linked to a blog post that gave more details about the release date of Doctor Who season 12.
The post quoted BBC director of content Charlotte Moore, who said: “We’re delighted that the Doctor and her friends will be returning to thrill audiences in 2020.

However, the BBC has not confirmed the exact release date of Doctor Who series 12.
