The leader of the Conservative Party Greater London Authority, Gareth Bacon, ripped into the London Mayor for his New Year’s message. The New Year’s firework display sparked outrage, and formed part of the Mayor’s London is Open campaign to show that “despite Brexit, London will always be open to the world.” Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr Bacon criticised Sadiq Khan for using public money for his own agenda.
He said: “My message back would be to stop using public money to aggrandise yourself because that is what he is doing. That is what this was.
“This was nothing more than a publicity stunt for Sadiq Khan.
“A man who is achieving very little who wants to get people talking about him, as we are now doing, early in the new year.
“A man who lives by media grid, I think he should stop doing that.
