US President Donald Trump’s partial government shutdown has caused the formal launch of the First Daughter's scheme to be delayed. It was originally planned to take place next week. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Adviser John Bolton were scheduled to speak at the event.
Officials from various US government agencies were also scheduled to take part.
Other participants included financial organisations and private businesses, including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, Walmart and Bank of America.
Speaking about the project, First Daughter Ms Trump said: “I look forward to continuing to work with the interagency and members of Congress on both sides of the aisle to advance women's access to vocational training, fuel female entrepreneurship and lift legal and social barriers that restrict our full and free economic participation.”
The initiative is backed by the State Department and the National Security Council.
