Nicholas Gunatilleke was the second player to try his luck at becoming a millionaire on the ITV programme tonight, and he started off wobbly.

Muddling through his questions, the smiling police officer didn’t appear to have much faith in his ability to win the top prize.

At one point, he even ignored the audience’s overwhelming answer in favour of asking former Top Gear host Jeremy’s opinion instead.

Despite his nerves, Nicholas pushed through and with the help of his friend Mike on a film-based question, the contestant won an impressive £64,000 for him and his family.

Nicholas tried his luck at the £125,000 question, which asked the citizens of which South American country are often called a “Chilango”.

Having never heard of the term, the contestant barely shrugged as he gave up on the game, safe in the knowledge he had £64,000 sitting in his cash fund.

Grinning, Nicholas was so overjoyed by his luck he launched himself out of the playing chair in a bid to race out of the studio.

Taken-aback, Jeremy’s next warning came across as more forceful than expected.

“You’re not going anywhere!” he ordered, as a puzzled Nicholas sank back down in his seat.
