Crispin Odey donated more than £870,000 to groups backing the UK’s exit from the bloc. However, he is now betting on the pound strengthening after Brexit is cancelled. He believes the result of the 2016 vote will be overturned by Parliament, without a second referendum.

Mr Odey commented: “My view is that it ain’t going to happen.

“I just can’t see how it happens with that configuration of Parliament.”

As a result, Mr Odey is betting on the pound increasing in value, claiming it “looks like it could be quite strong”.

He predicts the value of a pound will increase from $1.27 currently to between $1.32 and $1.35.

The pound has previously been very responsive to Brexit developments.
