Last night a No 10 document revealed conversations had been held to consider how long it would take to organise another vote on the UK’s future within the EU. The paper was described by the Prime Minister’s aides as “only a very short paper” that had been drawn to help discussions with rival MPs. But the former Ukip leader said “the worst is getting closer” after details of the talks emerged earlier today.

Farage pledges to FIGHT for Brexit as he warns of SECOND REFERENDUM

It comes as crisis meetings were held between Prime Minister Theresa May and Liberal Democrats leader Sir Vince Cable about the possibility of a second referendum or so-called People's Vote.

A Downing Street source told The Sun a new referendum would take a year to organise once all the legislation and consultations had been worked through.

A spokesman for the Prime Minister said: "In order to inform the discussions a very short paper set out in factual detail the number of months which would be required.

“This was illustrative only and our position is of course that there will be no second referendum as the Prime Minister has repeatedly said."

Upon hearing the shock revelation, Mr Farage tweeted: “My New Year resolution was to hope for the best but prepare for the worst, I am afraid that the worst is getting closer.”

After surviving a no-confidence vote on Wednesday, Mrs May told MPs she would reach out and listen to them as she tries to rescue her Brexit plan.

On Tuesday, Mrs May suffered a catastrophic defeat as her Withdrawal Agreement deal was voted down by a massive majority of 230.

In a bid to save the proposal, she welcomed MPs from numerous groups in the Commons to No 10 yesterday.
