Mr Stewart made the comment during an appearance on BBC Question Time. On Tuesday Parliament rejected the Government’s Brexit deal by a record margin of 230 MPs. Theresa May has been meeting party leaders and groups of MPs in a bid to break the deadlock.
BBC host Fiona Bruce asked Mr Stewart what concessions he would tolerate to get a Brexit deal.
The minister replied: “I would be prepared to compromise on a great deal, the question is are the other side serious.
“If they are serious then, of course, we can shift red lines.”
Mr Stewart campaigned for Remain before the 2016 EU membership referendum.
He has recently emerged as a high profile defender of the Prime Minister’s Brexit deal.
