Queen Elizabeth II, 92, is Britain’s longest-serving monarch and has ventured to more than 120 countries during her reign. The secrets to the success of her often-lengthy excursions has now been revealed. Whether Prince Philip’s wife travels on peace-making, ceremonial or leisure vacations, she is always accompanied by her team of staff. The entourage, according to biographer Robert Hardman, is often around 35 people. Robert let slip the scale of the travel entourage in his new book, Queen of the World. He confessed: “Throughout the reign the entourage has been around 35 for a typical state visit, including the foreign sec, two ladies in waiting, two private secretaries, an equerry, a doctor, a press office team, four police officers, the Queen’s dresser, the Duke of Edinburgh’s valet, a hairdresser, several secretaries, plus a page or two and a handful of luggage orderlies. “That might rise if the Queen was going to be entertaining on a major scale, as she might at a Commonwealth summit, and did not have the Royal Yacht at her disposal. “In which case, the entourage might top 50, with footmen and chefs at the back of the plane too.” Royal travel: How big is the Queen's flight entourage? This led to a catty remark from her husband about the class of seating on planes, made several years ago. She has previously said: “I’m never relaxed flying.” Biographer Robert also added: “She (the Queen) has never been a great fan of air travel. “If St Christopher, the patron saint of travellers, can afford any extra protection then so much the better.” Yet while she may not enjoy the process of getting to her destination, it is clear the monarch enjoys her duties when she gets there. All rights reserved for this news site express.co.uk and under his responsibility
