Cain (played by Jeff Hordley) couldn’t hold back any longer and he spilled the beans about Joe Tate’s (Ned Porteous) death to his beloved daughter Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb) on Emmerdale last week.
Believing he accidentally killed the billionaire businessman with an unfortunate punch to the face, the mechanic father-of-two has been grappling with his guilt on the ITV soap.
Cain mistakenly thought Joe had intentionally ditched his fiancée Debbie at the altar on the fateful day of Kim Tate’s (Claire King) masquerade ball at Home Farm, but Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) had actually been in cahoots with the recently released prisoner.
And since the events in October, Cain, his wife Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) and butler Graham have been closely guarding the secret of Joe’s disappearance.
But when Debbie decided to report her ex as a missing person and the police asked her and Cain to go and identify a body, the local hard man couldn’t cope with his daughter’s reaction.
Having told his daughter the truth, Cain was left devastated and spiralling out of control when Debbie declared he was “dead” to her.
And what’s worse, when a drunk Cain took things too far and turned violent with his wife, Moira told him she’d had enough too, and has since left the village.
