Stomach bloating is a common condition that affects most people at some point in their lifetime, according to the NHS. It could be caused by eating too much in one go, eating while standing up, or even by swallowing too much air. You’re more likely to feel bloated after a big meal, or after a weekend that includes lots of eating - especially over the festive period. But, you could also be at risk of stomach bloating and trapped wind if you eat too much onion, it’s been claimed.

Regularly eating onions could be raising your chances of having a swollen belly and tummy aches, according to York Test Laboratories.
They contain lots of fructose, a sugar that some people struggle to break down and remains undigested.
If it isn’t broken down and absorbed into the bloodstream, it can instead provide food for gas-producing bacteria, it said.
