City break holidays are best if they’re cheap as well as offering plenty to see and do. A Which? Travel survey has now revealed Krakow in Poland as the cheapest city break in Europe. It received a very high score of 91 per cent in the research and was the only city in Europe to score five stars for value for money. The European cities surveyed were ranked by Which? members on accommodation, food and drink, cultural attractions, shopping, ease of getting around and value for money, which gave them a score out of 100 per cent.

Which? Travel said of the results: “Krakow continues to resist the urge to shake down visitors with extortionate prices.
“Krakow was the only city in our survey to score five stars for value for money. Not only is the average hotel price just £63 per room, per night, but eating out is also a steal.
“Avoid the main square rip offs and you'll get a good meal for less than a tenner, and a pint of beer for two pounds.”
Krakow also scored five stars for accommodation, food and drink, culture attractions and ease of getting around.
It was only slightly let down by shopping in which it scored four stars out of five.
