He said: “Let’s call the EU’s bluff right to the bitter end. Let’s hold back that £39billion and let’s see what Barny and his cronies do about it then.” His fellow audience members erupted into applause at the suggestion.
The man is believed to be referring to the European Chief Negotiator for Brexit, Michel Barnier.
Another man in the audience agreed, saying: “£39billion - that’s a negotiation bargaining chip that could make them come back to the table.
“If they don’t give Britain a good deal, you don’t get the £39billion. Simple as that.”
Former Brexit minister Suella Braverman nodded as the member of the public made his point.
