Prince William has often spoken of his love and admiration for his grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen. In contrast, Prince Charles’ relationship with Her Majesty and Prince Philip has never been emotionally close, with the monarch often having to leave the young Charles behind while she fulfilled her royal duties. Katie Nicholl, in her 2010 book ‘William and Harry’, revealed how the Queen wanted to “learn from the mistakes” she made with Charles, and cultivated a closer relationship with William.
She described how, when he was studying at Eton as a teenager, the Queen would send for him for weekly private meetings at Windsor Castle.
According to Ms Nicholl: “William looked forward to these meetings all week.
“He shared a close bond with his grandmother, who could see Diana’s sensitivity in the teenage boy.”
