The businessmen, who have previously funded the party with millions since Mrs May was elected, have refused to fund the possibility of a snap election with Mrs May still in leadership, according to reports. Several donors have announced they will be staying away from the party’s infamous annual fundraising event. The secretive Black and White Ball sees Tory millionaires splurge hundreds of thousands of pounds on an exclusive auction selling access to ministers which in previous years has included a shoe shop with Mrs May herself.
The Council’s secretary David Wall told The Daily Telegraph: “With the level of confusion within Parliament at the moment, the uncertainty over a possible election, a possible change of leader, most donors are reluctant to make donations at this time.
"We all need some clarity on what direction the Conservative party and the Government are going in.”
On Tuesday, MPs will vote on a series of possible measures to break the Brexit stalemate for good with Tory backbenchers and the DUP consolidating with another on a plan to remove the so-called Northern Ireland backstop from the Prime Minister’s deal.
If there is a failure to come up with an alternative arrangement to the hard border than a snap election could the next possible option.
