The Met Office has urged those in the affected areas to stay in touch with their warnings and remain 'weather aware'. 10.48pm update: Coldest temperature since 2012 recorded in Aberdeenshire Temperatures in Braemar, Aberdeenshire, have dropped to minus 14.5C (5.9F), according to the Met Office. This is the coldest temperature recorded anywhere in the UK since 2012. 10.45pm update: More than a hundred schools to be closed on Friday in Devon and Cornwall A spate of school closures numbering more than 100 have been announced for Cornwall and Devon on Friday. Almost 90 schools in Cornwall will now be closed on Friday, the county council has said, while more than 34 will be shut in Devon. 10.10pm update: A30 drivers still trapped Some drivers trapped by the heavy snow in Cornwall are back on the move tonight - but not everyone. Within the last hour, Miranda Dalton, of Cornwall Police, said there were still problems on the A30 but the A38 was starting to clear. She tweeted: "Still have problems on the A30 at Okehampton and Whiddon Down. A38 at Haldon starting to move .. agencies working hard to clear A30 and Met office state snow should be stopping soon @DC_Police." Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said earlier motorists were stuck on the A38 near Haldon Hill and the A380 near Ideford Dip. 9.20pm update: How much snow has fallen? The Met Office says 12cm snow has fallen on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall. 5cm of snow in Sennybridge, Powys, 8cm in Spadeadam, Cumbria, and 7cm in Tulloch Bridge, Inverness-shire, the forecaster added. 9.05pm update: Reports of snow now falling in the capital Snowfall is being spotted in London, according to people on social media. “@d_jooste Got a few flakes of snow in SE London.” @JohnLoony tweeted: “It's snowing in Croydon! A spokeswoman told Express.co.uk: "We recognise the uncertainty that the bad weather may be causing customers, and have offered those due to travel on short-haul flights to/from Heathrow the opportunity to postpone their journey. "Due to the adverse weather conditions predicted, we have been forced to cancel and merge a number of short-haul flights tomorrow to ensure that we protect the rest of our schedule. "Safety is always our priority, and we're working hard to keep our operation moving. We're sorry that some of our services are being delayed by the weather conditions." 7.15pm update: Help rough sleepers tonight If you see anyone sleeping rough in tonight's freezing weather in England or Wales, report it to Streetlink. The details you provide will be sent to the local authority or outreach service for the area to help them find the individual and connect them to support. 6.55pm update: 'Intensive effort' to help stranded Cornwall drivers An "intensive effort" is under way to help stranded motorists on the A30 in Cornwall, said Chief Inspector Adrian Leisk, head of roads policing across Devon, Cornwall and Dorset. He tweeted: "For those stuck on the A30 in Cornwall, an intensive effort is under way to clear the carriageways of vehicles to allow the gritters through. "Please stay with your vehicles and we will get to you." 6.20pm update: Londoners told to finish journeys by 9pm Londoners have been warned to “complete all journeys by 9pm” due to the snow. Up to 10cm of snow could hit in parts of the UK tonight, and London is covered in an amber warning for snow Travel for London said: "IMPORTANT TRAVEL INFO FOR TONIGHT: temperatures are due to drop and there is a likelihood of snow, sleet, ice & windy conditions. Please try to complete all journeys by 21:00." Travellers are being advised to take caution on platforms, whether there is snow or not, as they are likely to be slippy. Snow is now falling in south Wales, Cornwall, Devon, Exeter and Plymouth. 5.15pm: More than 100 vehicles stuck on A30 in Cornwall Approximately 100 drivers are stuck on the A40 near Temple in Cornwall due to a whiteout, Highways England has said. The stranded motorists are having to sit in their cars in freezing temperatures while they wait for a snow plough and glitter to clear the way. Chief Inspector Adrian Leisk, head of roads policing across Devon, Cornwall and Dorset, said around 100 vehicles were stuck on the A30 in Cornwall. He tweeted: "Significant snowfall in £Cornwall, particularly on the A30 at Temple where around 100 vehicles are currently stuck. "The snow is heading eastwards and will cause significant disruption tonight. Please be prepared and avoid all but absolutely essential travel." 4.28pm: Cornwall Airport shuts / train service providers warn people to travel home early Cornwall Airport has shut temporarily because of the snow but is aiming to reopen by 5pm, according to an update on Twitter. The airport is located near Newquay, where traffic has traffic has ground to a halt because of the snow. Train operators are urging people to check services before travelling tonight and to make their journeys sooner rather than later. Great Northern tweeted: "We advise passengers to travel earlier this evening if possible." 4.20pm update: Drivers warned of travel delays Dan Suri, chief meteorologist at the Met Office, said: "As well as the Amber warning there are still Yellow snow and ice warnings in place for a wider area across southern England and Wales, and for the east of the UK and northern Scotland. "This snow and ice could be disruptive, causing delays to travel. "Snow amounts will vary within the warning areas with some places seeing very little." 3.40pm update: Snowy scenes in southwest England Snow is falling thick and fast in Cornwall causing traffic delays on roads. Weatherman Liam Dutton tweeted: "Rain has turned to snow over Bodmin Moor in NE Cornwall, up at around 250 metres. Traffic already slow and merging into one lane. Cornwall Council said three schools - Curnow School, Launceston College and Trythall CP School - have closed early today due to the forecast of heavy snow. Cornwall College Cambourne and Duchy College Rosewarne campuses also cancelled evening classes due to "heavysnowfall". All 30 schools on Devon County Council's website were listed as either closed or partially closed on Thursday afternoon. 3.25pm: Kat Hopps takes over live blog 3pm update: Where will it snow in Wales today? Wales woke up to a covering of frost on Thursday morning, but there was a warning of freezing fog in places after the coldest night of winter so far. However by lunchtime the snow will start to fall in some parts of the west coast of Wales. By midday the snow is still working its way across Ireland, so there will be very little snow in the country at this point. By 3pm on Thursday, it will be a different picture, as forecasts show snow falling across most of the country. The heaviest snowfall is predicted for the south and by 3pm the maximum snowfall is forecast in the south of Wales, where three inches (8cm) of snow is possible. Some parts of Wales are covered by the amber warning issued by the Met Office, and by 6pm even more snow could fall leading to four inches (9cm) of accumulation. The majority of the snow will fall in south Wales, with some areas seeing 6cm to 8cm of snow. As the country heads into Friday, conditions will worsen in the north of the country, but generally across south Wales, four inches (9cm) is expected. Amber warning for snow from 2pm on Thursday until 9pm The Met Office updated its warning to include an amber warning covering south-west England and parts of Wales. Heavy snow is forecast, which will likely disrupt travellers and lead to power cuts as snow falls quickly in a short amount of time. The amber alert for heavy and disruptive snow warns of a risk to life. The Met Office states the warning covers London and South East England, the South West and Wales. 2. Yellow warning for snow and ice from 1pm on Thursday and until 1pm on Friday Snow and ice will bring disruption to south-east, south-west England and Wales from Thursday afternoon to Friday midday, as a yellow warning is in affect across large swathes of England. As much as four inches (10cm) of snow could fall, but between 0.4cm to 1 inch (1-3cm) is expected more widely, however some places will get little snow. “With cold air in place along with areas of rain and snow icy stretches are likely to form,” the Met Office said. 3. Yellow warning for snow and ice from 6pm on Thursday until 12pm on Friday A yellow warning for snow and ice covers north and east Scotland and England. Showers will fall a mixture of rain, sleet and snow, with accumulations of 0.4cm to 1 inch (1-3cm) possible in places by Friday morning and ice will form on untreated surfaces. The regions affected are: Central, Tayside and Fife, East Midland, East of England, Grampian, Highlands and Eilean Siar, North East England, Orkney and Shetland, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders and Yorkshire & Humber. The map suggests parts of Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Dorset and south Wales will be among the most affected. The amber warning comes into affect at 2pm and expires at 9pm on Thursday. Up to four inches (10cm) of snow is possible, including 1 to 3 inches (3-7cm) in just two to three hours from this afternoon. Other yellow warnings come into force later today from 1pm.
