Dan Walker was motivated to take to the gym after Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas documented herself getting in shape to climb Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief. The 41-year-old BBC Breakfast presenter told his 55,700 Instagram followers the latin ballroom star had “inspired” him to stay fit. In a video shared on his account, he said: “Greetings! Today I have been suitably inspired by Shirley Ballas giving it some in the gym. “So in order to get ready for Comic Relief’s climb up Kilimanjaro - the return to Kili - I’m going to go in the gym and give it some for five K.”
Concluding the message, the father-of-three finished: “I will report back.”
The clip was accompanied by the caption: “Inspired by @shirleyballas it’s time to get Kilimanjaro and @comicrelief ready.”
Seeking advice from his followers, he asked: “What would be a decent five K time on the treadmill?
Most responders insisted sub 20 would be a reasonable time, with one person offering: “Anything under 20 is good.”
A second fan encouraged: “Go for sub 25 with your legs and youth on your side,” while a third said: “My husband says 18-20 mins.”
The journalist decided to hit the gym after Shirley Ballas told her fans she was preparing herself for the challenging climb.
