Snow showers are likely over northern Scotland, eastern England, south-west England and western Wales. Western Scotland and Northern Ireland should remain dry and largely snow free. The cold will continue into Saturday, with the potential for more showers of snow.
Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said early morning Friday will see “ice patches for southern and eastern areas, a widespread frost where we got clear skies and temperatures well below freezing.
“Western Scotland and Northern Ireland will have a cold start to the day with sunny skies.
“We’ll have the continued threat of showers moving into northern and eastern Scotland and eastern England.”
An amber weather warning is in place for part of southern England, centred around Surrey and Berkshire.
According to the Met Office this means there is “potential risk to life and property”.
