But if not, spring should arrive early, with the official first day of spring being on Wednesday, March 20.

This year, Phil predicted spring will arrive early, as his shadow was not seen.
Groundhog Day has been a tradition in the US since the 1800s.
But the first Groundhog event was held in 1887, after first being written about in the Punxsutawney Spirit newspaper in 1886.
