European Research Group leader Jacob Rees-Mogg explained to a caller on LBC that if Britain had made it clear to the EU from “day one’ in June 2016 that the UK was planning for no deal the EU would have offered a better deal. Mr Rees-Mogg was confident that quickly starting preparations for no deal would have forced the EU to take threats more seriously. “If we can unite the party, have a strong government and leave the European Union that would be a satisfying outcome.
