Emiliano Sala’s ex-girlfriend speaks out after body is found in plane wreckage

Wreckage of the Piper Malibu plane carrying the two men was found on Sunday night on the seabed off Guernsey. The Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) confirmed the sighting on yesterday, 13 days after the flight first disappeared. The body is yet be identified but following that, Sala’s ex-girlfriend Berenice Schkair has posted a picture of the footballer and has implored her followers to “pray for Sala”.

The plane was found after petition raised more than £300,000 which included donations from footballers Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

Speaking from his hometown of Progresso, Sala’s father said: “I cannot believe it, this is a dream, a bad dream and I'm desperate.”

A recovery vessel picked up something on the sonar 24 miles off Guernsey and made further passes over the area to pinpoint the location before going through various stages of identification.

Rescue teams are now developing a recovery plan for the plane with the man who led the search, marine scientist avid Mearns insisting that it is “imperative” that the plane is raised from the seabed soon.
