Wednesday morning will be mild and largely dry apart from some rain in the south-east. However fierce winds, turning into gales in some locations, are expected to hit later in the day. They will be accompanied by heavy rain, which will turn into snow over some northern areas.
Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said: “Cloud pushes in for Wednesday evening, the rainfall becomes steady and heavy across southern and south-eastern districts and rain also into western parts of the UK.
“It turns unsettled across many parts of Wednesday night, the winds whipping with 60 mile-per-hour gusts possible around Western coasts.
“Gales in exposed locations, rainfall quite heavy and snow over the hills in the north and perhaps that snow coming down to lower levels as the cold air digs in.”
