Argentinian aeronautical expert Commander Jorge Polanco told national television network TyC Sports he was "surprised" the plane was being flown at night and in winter. And one experienced ex-pilot told the Prune.com online pilots' forum: “It used to be a requirement in France to fly twin-engined at night, single-engine night flights were illegal. I assume this must not be a commercial flight or someone is breaking the rules.”

But the Civil Aviation Authority said changes to the regulations in the last few years meant there was "nothing preventing a single engine aircraft flying commercially at night".
