BBC weather: Britain set for storms as Met Office issue wind and rain warnings

BBC weather presenter Carol Kirkwood explained the powerful winds that are currently striking the country and how they will continue into the weekend as rain turns to heavy showers. The wind gusts are expected to reach highs of 70mph whereas the heavy rain will increase the chance of flooding in some areas. In response, the Met Office has issued rain and wind yellow warnings across the country.

She said: “We can see gusty winds in the south will slowly ease through the morning.

“Then we have got this band of rain and hill snow moving through Northern Ireland and into western Scotland and western parts of England and the Midlands.

“As we go through the course of the day what you will find is as well as the wind easing, this whole band is going to push off into the North Sea.

“Behind it will be left with still quite a windy day just not as windy as this morning and a plethora of showers.
