The Alvarez family will soon be back on Netflix when One Day at a Time season three is released on Friday, February 7. Justina Machado, Todd Grinnell and Rita Moreno will be back to lead the One Day at a Time season three cast, which also stars Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz and Stephen Tobolowsky. Gloria Estefan will appear in series three of One Day at a Time on Netflix as part of the guest cast, which also includes Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz and Melissa Fumero.
Penelope Alvarez - Justina Machado
Penelope is the matriarch of the Alvarez family, a nurse and former army medic who suffers from PTSD as a result of her time in Afghanistan.
She is played by Justina Machado, who you may recognise from her roles on Six Feet Under, Jane the Virgin and her voice work on Disney’s Elena of Avalor.
Elena Alvarez - Isabella Gomez
Elena is Penelope’s daughter, a frank-talking teen who came out to her family as a lesbian in the first series of One Day at a Time.
The cast member is portrayed by Isabella Gomez, whose only previous credits before One Day at a Time where Matador and an episode of Modern Family.
