Flights can be hard to prepare for, especially if you’re travelling with just hand luggage in a bid to keep costs low. It’s important to be savvy with packing and only include the absolute essentials. There’s one item that you should never be tempted to throw into your cabin bag - even though it might seem like a good idea. Preserving space is vital with hand luggage, and Susan Walsh, author of Pack Light! Start You Solo Adventure Right, has revealed her top tip.

It’s a very bad idea to pack inflatable travel pillows as they just take up space, Susan told Wanderlust.
“Clever travel accessories, like inflatable pillows, aren’t worth the space, as they can be easily substituted, such as rolling up an insulated jacket,” she told the travel website.
Definitely avoid packing any bulky accessories such as hair dryers, too.
Packing toiletries should also be avoided. “There are few more heavy and bulky items than bottled liquids, gels and aerosols, and they are also prone to leaking and can cause a security concern,” Adam Ewart, founder of luggage shipping company Send My Bag said.
“Items such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash and sunblock can be bought at your destination for minimal amounts versus luggage costs with most airlines.”
