Albert Finney, who has starred in countless movies, has died at the age of 82, a family spokesperson has said. A statement released today, read: "Albert Finney, aged 82, passed away peacefully after a short illness with those closest to him by his side. “The family request privacy at this sad time." Tributes have been pouring in for the beloved star with actor David Morissey paying tribute to the legend.

Albert Finney, aged 82, passed away peacefully after a short illness with those closest to him by his side

Taking to Instagram and Twitter, he wrote: “One of the true great. Both on stage and screen. A powerhouse of an actor. A real hero of mine. RIP Albert Finney."

Fans have also issued their condolences, as one person wrote on Twitter: “Very sad to hear about Albert Finney ...brilliant actor and played THE best ever Scrooge #RIP."

Another person said: “Best Albert Finney films, Miller's Crossing, Wolfen, Tom Jones, Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, Murder On The Orient Express, one of the best films ever made. RIP.”

While a third person commented: “Aw! One of the greats, indeed. Hats off, sir. #AlbertFinney.”
