Dr Walter Dudley is an Oceanography and a Director of the Kalakaua Marine Centre at the University of Hawaii. As part of his work with the Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Programme, he has studied the Ring of Fire and the threat it poses on the Hawaiian islands. Around 90 per cent of the world’s earthquakes occur along this volcanic belt and 81% of the largest events on records.
Professor Dudley fears that, in the event of a mega disaster, Hawaii could be hit from several angles.
It is his job to monitor the Hawaiian islands and warn residents if anything changes.
He detailed during Amazon Prime’s “Mega Disaster” his fears should volcanic activity strike several times along the Ring of Fire.
He said: “The Hawaiian islands sitting as they do in the middle of the Pacific Ocean could be affected by tsunamis from all angles of the Pacific.
