On tonight’s Antique Roadshow, one guest brought in a small brooch, which had been handed down to her.
Examining the jewellery, expert Susan Rumfitt commented: “Such a cheery brooch particularly the colour, is it something that you wear?”
“Yes I wear it regularly on occasions where I go out in the evening with evening wear, the guest replied noting they get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
Wanting to know more about the piece, Susan enquired: “Brilliant. And how did it come into your collection?”
The guest explained: “It was actually a piece of jewellery that my husband got from his grandmother, it’s one of the few pieces that I got.”
Susan gasped: “What a generous guy to be buying all this jewellery.”
The guest went on to add: “Well my father’s grandmother was from a wealthy family.
“Every time the father had a piece of jewellery made for the mother, he had a piece of jewellery made for his daughters.”
“I suppose date wise, this is a little bit borderline as to whether he bought it or had it made because it dates from the 1860s, 1870s latest,” Susan shared.
“It is a little bit on the borderline with regards to that but it is a superb looking piece to have in the collection.”
