The Absolutely Fabulous star began the evening by making a string of gags about the stars in attendance, but one was just a bit too controversial for viewers. Ms Lumley was welcoming the guests representing BlacKkkKlansman, a crime drama that came out in August last year. The host addressed the film’s director Spike lee and star Adam Driver.
She said: “It’s an incredible film, it has already won many awards.
“I’m surprised it did so well at the Klan Film Festival.”
People watching the show on BBC One were stunned at the line.
One person said on Twitter: “Ooh, that Klam joke was an absolute clunker.”
