A man has died after being stabbed in the back in Essex (Image: EXPRESS) Police have launched a murder investigation following the fatal stabbing close to Castle Park in Colchester this morning. Emergency services were called at about 8.20am and remain at the scene. Police said that their investigation is currently at an “early stage” and urged anyone with information to come forward. An Essex Police spokeswoman said: “We are investigating the death of a man in Colchester. “We were called by the ambulance service shortly after 8.20am today, Monday 11 February, with reports a man had been found deceased in Ryegate Road. “He had suffered stab wound to his back. “Enquiries remain at an early stage and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area this morning and saw what happened, or has any information, to call the North Major Crime team on 101 quoting incident 208 of today’s date. “You can also report online at www.essex.police.uk/do-it-online “Alternatively, contact the Crimestoppers charity 100 percent anonymously on 0800 555 111 or use the anonymous online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org.” One local said: "I saw this man on the floor when I went out and I thought he was sleeping. "When they tried to wake him up, they realised what had happened.” Ryegate Road runs alongside Colchester Castle Park, which regularly hosts music concerts and festivals.
