#GameOfThrones: Lord Varys to be EXPOSED as a secret TARGARYEN in season ...

Game of Thrones stalwart Lord Varys (played by Conleth Hill) is no stranger to finding himself at the centre of the drama in the HBO series. Season eight of Game of Thrones could see Varys once again involved in a shocking storyline involving Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). One Game of Thrones super-fan has proposed a theory on online forum Reddit which suggests Varys is, in fact, a Targaryen and his surprise family link could be exposed in season eight.

Is Lord Varys a secret Targaryen on Game of Thrones?

Game of Thrones season eight has seen a number of potential spoilers put forward by fans ahead of the series premiere but Lord Varys being a secret Targaryen has a lengthy, yet plausible, explanation.

Varys has consistently had a vested interest in Daenerys since the very first season, although he did try to have her assassinated in season one.

Daenerys managed to escape the man who attempted to poison her and sought revenge on the Lannisters, for whom Varys was working for at the time.

On online forum site Reddit, one fan has put forward their reasoning as to why Varys could be a member of the Targaryen family.

The Reddit user’s theory begins: “I speculate that Varys is the grandson of Aerion ‘Brightflame’ Targaryen.

“This started when I saw that Varys said he'd been born in Lys. Assuming this is true, here is my proposed timeline:

208 AL - Aerion Targaryen is exiled to Lys where he fathered at least one child. 232 AL - Aerion drank wildfire and died. 233 AL - King Maekar I died. A Great Council was called to determine succession. The two oldest sons, including Aerion, were already dead. The council noted that Aerion left behind ‘an infant son’ but they pass on the idea of offering the crown to this foreign-born, b*****d infant. Instead, they offered the crown to Maester Aemon (Peter Vaughn), who famously refused it, and the crown went to King Aegon V. 243 AL - ‘Mad’ King Aerys was born. 248 AL - Aerion's b*****d son would have been 16. This seems to be a normal age to father your first child
