Florence Cassel’s (played Josephine Jobert) attack was undoubtably a turning point for the once blissful BBC One series Death in Paradise.
The detective was stabbed in an abandoned warehouse after following her partner Patrice Campbell (Leemore Marrett) into the derelict building last week.
While her assassin remains at large, fans of the thrilling murder mystery drama expect to discover the culprit's identity this Thursday.
The gritty plot has captivated viewers, but initially concerned cast members felt it was “too dark” and “really intense”.

Newcomer Shyko Amos, who portrays Ruby Patterson in the programme, admitted the show was going in a different direction.
“It's a real departure from what Death in Paradise does,” she told Digital Spy.
“It's dark, it's really dark. That was the thing on-set, 'Is this too dark? Is this even Death in Paradise?' It's really intense."
But actor Ardal O'Hanlon, who plays the role of Jack Mooney, was a little more confident the storyline would work well on Death in Paradise.
Yet the 53-year-old TV star urged fans of the series to ready themselves for a “grittier” case when he teased an upcoming plot.
“It’s quite startling and quite dramatic what happens. So yeah, it is, I suppose, a bit darker,” he explained.
