The Labour leader’s survival is at stake as several junior shadow ministers presented him with an ultimatum. Mr Corbyn is facing growing tensions within his party, with anti-Brexit MPs calling for him to put Theresa May’s deal back to the people and others adamant they would never support a fresh referendum.
The leader of the opposition has not openly rejected the possibility to back another Brexit vote, but his close ally and general secretary of the Unite union, Len McCluskey, said stopping Brexit would “not the best option for our nation”.
He added: “My view is that, having had a 2016 referendum where the people have voted to come out of the EU, to try and deflect away from that threatens the whole democratic fabric on which we operate.
“I’m saying that in reality it is not the best option for our nation.”
