Ceon Broughton, 29, told police he wanted to carry their daughter Louella to a hospital unit when she became seriously ill after taking the potent party drug 2C-P in a forest next to the Bestival music festival. But Broughton said John, 62, who starred in Coronation Street as well as BBC dramas Holby City and Casualty, and his wife Carol, 68, who is a former member of the TV dance troupe Hot Gossip, had stopped him. Instead, he claimed, they told him to go and fetch help from someone in a high-visibility vest.
Broughton said he did not want to leave Louella.
A jury at Winchester Crown Court has heard that by the time he finally went for help she was dead.
He denies her manslaughter and supplying her with the Class A drug that killed her.
The prosecution allege he failed in his duty of care to his girlfriend by refusing to summon help when she began shouting, hitting herself, rolling in nettles and eating thorns in the woods.

They had gone after storms halted the stage performances.
Broughton shot videos of her bad trip on his mobile for up to six hours.
He also took three photos of her after she had died, an hour before her 25th birthday, the prosecution claim.
