Bitter divisions have begun to appear within Labour following the resignation of seven MPs on Monday, with many citing Mr Corbyn’s poor handling over bullying, antisemitism and Brexit as key factors in their resignations. According to the Daily Telegraph, the party’s deputy leader Tom Watson told Mr Corbyn at times he “no longer recognises” Labour and urged him to reshuffle his front bench to bring the party back into the "mainstream". He also warned that more MPs could leave the party and join the so-called “Independent Group” of MPs.
The pressure continued to build on Mr Corbyn after yesterday’s shock resignations of Luciana Berger, Chuka Umunna, Chris Leslie, Angela Smith, Gavin Shuker, Ann Coffey and Mike Gapes.
During a press conference, Mr Leslie said he believed it would be “irresponsible” to let Mr Corbyn into No 10.
He added: “In all conscience, we can no longer knock on doors and support a Government led by Mr Corbyn and the team around him.”
Ms Berger, herself a target of racist abuse, branded Labour “institutionally” antisemitic, according to the Daily Telegraph.
