Netflix is full of true crime stories, but Dirty John is the latest drama based on a true story to be released by the streaming service. Dirty John, which was released by Netflix UK last week, is based on the story of John Meehan (played by Eric Bana), a conman who used revenge porn as a way to extort money out of his victims. John Meehan’s true story has already been the subject of a number of articles by the LA Times as well as a podcast, but Dirty John is the first time it has been made into a TV show.
