Living outside of the English capital can be appealing for those looking for a different way of life to the hustle and bustle of the city too. With plenty of transport links into the hub of the UK, commuter towns can be a great option for those who want to live away from London, but still need to regularly travel into the city centre for work. In order to rank the areas, the team have taken a look at average house prices, the length of a train journey to London, the cost of getting there via a season ticket, and the town’s lifestyle rating - according to the Office for National Statistics. And, when it comes to London’s best commuter towns, it seems that Cheshunt in the county of Hertfordshire is the champion this year. Situated around 26 minutes away from the city centre, a season ticket here - which stands at £2,288 - is the fifth cheapest out of the lot. Meanwhile, the average house price in the town comes in at £384,248. In comparison, a property in London averages at around £478,853. Coming in second, with the same life satisfaction rating, is Waltham Cross in Hertfordshire. Commuters can expect to pay £2,028 for a season ticket, and travel for around 28 minutes. However, house prices are slightly more expensive here - averaging at £390,612. High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, ranks in third place. Residents in this town looking set to be every so slightly more satisfied in life than the aforementioned locations - due to life satisfaction being 7.95, according to the Office for National Statistics. However, a season ticket will cost High Wycombe-based a huge amount more - namely, around £3,668 a time. Hatfield in Hertfordshire, Gravesend in Kent, and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire also feature in the top 10 commuter towns - as does Watford Junction, Hertfordshire. Similarly, those living in Basingstoke and Overton in Hampshire, and Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, may be pleased to know that their towns have also been rated in the top 10 per cent of London commuter towns.
