It was once the case that men and women could apply for their state pension at different ages.
While women could access theirs at 60, men were forced to wait until 65.
This was reversed under the Pensions Act 2011.
Women’s state pension age has been on the increase since, and the date they can get their pension depends of their age.

By 2020 both men and women will both have the retirement age of 66.
The UK government’s state pension age time tables reveal exactly when certain women can claim.
The government said: “Under the Pensions Act 2011, women’s State Pension age will increase more quickly to 65 between April 2016 and November 2018.
“From December 2018 the State Pension age for both men and women will start to increase to reach 66 by October 2020.”
