Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay and Attorney General Geoffrey Cox visited the Belgian capital for talks with chief EU negotiator Michel Barnier on Thursday after the negotiator held separate discussions with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. Ian Wishart, Bloomberg’s European reporter, claimed there was “something in the air” as officials hammered out a Brexit agreement. It comes after the Prime Minister travelled to meet with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Wednesday to try to break the deadlock.
Mr Wishart told BBC Politics Live: “Jeremy Corbyn and Keir Starmer currently in the European Commission speaking to Michel Barnier.
“As they come out, the Attorney General and the Brexit Secretary are going to go in.
“Obviously we had Theresa May here last night. People know that something is in the air, they are hammering out a deal.
“This meeting later between Cox and the Brexit Secretary I think is going to be really interesting because they might come with a proposal, we might begin to see some language about some concessions that the EU is going to give over this much-hated backstop.”
