The Umbrella Academy season one finale provided a first look into Sir Reginald Hargreeves’ backstory before starting the Academy.
Sir Reginald Hargreeves adopted seven of 43 children all born on the same day in 1989, including Number Five (Aidan Gallagher) and Luther/Number One (Tom Hopper) at the start of the season.
Netflix viewers were then treated to a glimpse into the billionaire’s life prior to his ‘recruitment’ of the Academy and showed him on an alien planet.

In episode 10 titled The White Violin, Reginald Hargreeves is shown tending to his partner Abigail (Liisa Repo-Martell).
Set “a long time ago”, Abigail is dying from an unknown illness in her bed.
A youthful Reginald is preparing to leave but tells her: “I can’t leave you. There must be another way.”
Abigail replies: “There isn’t. I will die here, but you won’t – the world needs you, Reggie.”
The fact they’re on an alien planet isn’t revealed until Reginald heads to the bedroom window where dozens of rockets are seen launching into the sky.
