Only ONE member of influential Rees-Mogg group ERG eager for NO DEAL #Brexit

The Mid Bedfordshire MP insisted the European Research Group (ERG) chaired by Jacob Rees-Mogg has been campaigning with Theresa May to ensure the UK snatches a good Brexit deal from the European Union. Tory defectors have blamed the ERG for "holding the party to ransom" with their uncompromising demand to deliver on the referendum results and to protect the UK from the risks associated with the Irish backstop. But Ms Dorries denied the accusation, revealing only one member of the group remained staunchly supportive of a no deal scenario while other MPs have opened up to compromise for a unilateral solution.

Speaking to BBC Politics Live, the Conservative politician said: "I’m absolutely open to look at that and so are most members of the ERG.

"There is, I think, only one person in the ERG who wants to leave with no deal. The rest of us are absolutely desperate for a deal but we are desperate for the right deal and a good deal."

The ERG was founded in 1993 in response to growing concerns about Britain's integration of the EU and members have since campaigned against membership of the bloc. Ms Dorries has been contacted for further comment.

She continued: "I go back to the Prime Minister’s original words. She said no deal is better than a bad deal. Well, I don’t want a no deal and I don’t want a bad deal. As far as I’m concerned, a good deal is better than a bad deal.
