BBC audience members whooped and cheered after political philosopher Sir Roger Scruton suggested a second Brexit referendum could end the parliamentary deadlock that left Theresa May scrambling for an alternative deal with the European Union. Sir Roger insisted Mrs May keep the possibility of a no deal on the table but proposed a new vote on the final terms of the divorce agreement might help resolve the impasse. Speaking to BBC Any Questions?, he said: "Whether she is holding Parliament to ransom, I don’t know. As the crowd erupted into cheers, the philosopher commented: "There you are. There is clearly some support for that particular move.

The weekly BBC show was broadcasted from the town of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire. During the 2016 EU referendum, local voters returned a 53 percent majority for Leave with a 79 percent turnout.
