'Had to turn over' Viewers in turmoil over toilet segment on ...

THIS TIME WITH ALAN PARTRIDGE aired on BBC One this evening as Steve Coogan reprised his role as Alan as he was offered a career lifeline. Due to the sudden illness of This Time’s regular host, Alan was welcomed onto the show to help out. However, one segment of the show left viewers in turmoil.

This Time involved a segment on hygiene and Alan’s train toilet drill left many of those tuning in stunned.

The presenter stood up to demonstrate how to use a train toilet without using your hands or at least, using your hands as little as possible.

He pretended he was on a moving train as he demonstrated the routine, which left his co-host Jennie Gresham (played by Susannah Fielding) stunned.

Alan also performed a song to help viewers remember to wash their hands after going to the toilet.

The presenter began: “The humble art of hand washing. We all know we should do it and all know the nursery rhyme.

“After the pee and poo has landed, do make sure that you’re clean handed.”

Many of those tuning in were quick to take to Twitter to comment on the segment, with viewers divided over Alan’s return to the BBC.
